Momentous Sports Division is Established
Poised to become industry leaders, Momentous’ sports insurance professionals share the vision and the goals of the Sports Division and what it means for the firm’s future growth.
Van Nuys, CA - December 15, 2009 - As the President of Momentous Insurance Brokerage, Diane Brinson is continually evaluating new growth opportunities for the firm. Already having established the largest independent personal lines brokerage in the state of California, Brinson realized that she had a capability which, once expanded and cultivated to its full potential, could become a considerable force in the industry. One of Momentous’ core competencies is providing insurance services to high net worth individuals, including nearly 100 professional athletes. In addition, Momentous’ staff of 115 insurance professionals has expertise in writing all major types of insurance – Personal, Business and Life & Health.
Putting all this together, it was clear that forming a comprehensive specialty practice exclusive to sports would better serve current clients and provide an opportunity to attract new ones. Momentous firmly believes that specializing in fewer key areas is a stronger business model than being a generalist. To that end, Momentous combined the expertise of current sports insurance professionals and recruited additional specialists to form the Momentous Sports Division, with a primary objective to provide superior risk management and insurance solutions for athletes, coaches and teams. The Momentous team set off with the ambitious goal of becoming the largest sports practice in the United States within two years.
Private Risk Advisor Steve Rivera was one of those hand-picked for the Sports Division. Rivera specializes in the affluent market, providing insurance solutions for athletes and other high net worth clientele. He has extensive knowledge in providing comprehensive risk management solutions for high profile professional athletes in the NFL, NBA and MLB.
“Momentous’ talented sports specialists understand the way the sports industry works,” said Rivera. “Our clients can rest assured that we have a handle on their complex lifestyles because we emphasize evaluating the complete picture of an athlete before providing insurance solutions.”
This complete picture is also referred to internally by the Sports Division as the “complete athlete,” which describes Momentous’ holistic risk management approach to protecting an athlete’s assets and livelihood.
The Momentous Sports Division recognizes that an athlete has risks on and off the field. On the field, they have risks of injury that could shorten their future earning potential and put assets at risk. Momentous can tailor Life, Health and Disability products to address the athlete’s needs. Off the field, it gets a little more complicated. Successful pro athletes live luxurious lifestyles with high-valued estates and international travel. They are national brands who promote their careers across multimedia marketing platforms. They are oftentimes businessmen and charity spokespersons. All of these activities present a complex set of risks and require a team of experts to fully protect the athlete with proper risk management and insurance solutions.
In addition, the Momentous Sports Division will concentrate on designing insurance programs for sports related businesses, including those professional services providers previously mentioned, along with sporting events, venues, coaches and more.
Also heavily involved in the new initiative is Private Risk Advisor Zach Staggs, who has an extensive background in sales and customer service.
When asked what service means to the Momentous Sports Division, Staggs explained, “Momentous is a promise to provide superior service. Whether that means finding innovative solutions to a client’s needs or being available outside normal business hours to handle a crisis, we are committed to a personalized approach.”
The Momentous Sports Division also includes the following team members – all of whom have spent years forging strong industry relationships and establishing a notable presence in the field:
• David Toth, Chief Operating Officer
• Craig Warren, Assistant Vice President
• Rochelle Brotter, Assistant Vice President
According to Brotter, the key to placing insurance for high profile athletes is having key partnerships within the insurance marketplace.
“Momentous’ long-standing insurance carrier relationships are one of the factors that separate us from the competition,” said Brotter. “There are many types of coverage that are difficult to write for high profile athletes – Momentous’ reputation and significant clout in the insurance marketplace allows us the ability to write some of these more challenging coverages.”
