Momentous Collects Shoes for Haiti
Van Nuys, CA (March 10, 2010) – The 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti left millions of people in need of basic essentials such as shoes. Momentous Insurance Brokerage’s Make It Better Committee partnered with Soles4Souls - Project Haiti to provide shoes to the victims of this natural disaster. We are proud to announce that 233 pairs of shoes were donated to Soles4Souls.
“The earthquake affected so many people,” said Gwyn Shamlin, Chairperson of the Make it Better Committee, “we asked ourselves how could we NOT help? We felt it would be a great way for employees to contribute to the outpouring of support for Haiti and, at the same time, do something we always say we need to do; clean out our closets. That's when the Haiti shoe drive was put into action.”
The shoe drive commenced February 22nd and received such a great response, that the deadline had to be extended an additional week. Some of Momentous’ clients were also inspired to donate to the cause. Women's Insurance Association donated shoes and American Technologies, Inc. donated shoes and boxes for collection.
Soles4souls collects and provides shoes for those in need all around the world and their efforts have been and continue to be tremendous. Soles4Souls has committed to collect over 1 million pairs of shoes to aid in the recovery and rebuilding process in Haiti. The Make it Better Committee launched the shoe drive in order to do our part to ensure Soles4Souls’ reaches their goal.
The Make it Better Committee organizes unique and meaningful ways to give back to the community. From cooking meals for the homeless to assembling full Thanksgiving dinners for 27 families to buying clothes for 60 children over the holidays, the Make It Better committee is continually finding opportunities to directly involve themselves with charitable work.
